4.4. Indian Constitution and its Vedic Tradition

Environmental Sustainability

This relief sculpture depicts the theme of environmental sustainability by integrating Vedic philosophy and the principles of the Indian Constitution. At its centre lies a sacred tree with wide branches and deep roots, symbolizing life, growth and environmental conservation—as mentioned in the Atharva Veda and Yajur Veda.
Surrounding the tree are flowing rivers, diverse wildlife and living flora, representing harmony and biodiversity in nature.
The design also has delicately carved Sanskrit shlokas inspired by ancient Vedic mantras and references to Article 48A and Article 51A(c) of the Constitution, which call for the conservation and improvement of the natural environment.
The composition is further enhanced by intricate geometric shapes, depicting the interconnected structure of ecosystems.
Made of hot beige sandstone, this sculpture evokes the sanctity of nature and the spirit of eternal devotion to ecological balance.
