Secularism and Religious Freedom
This relief sculpture is a symbol of secularism and religious freedom, which presents a beautiful synthesis of Vedic pluralism and constitutional values. The lotus flower in its center represents the Vedic phrase "Ekam Sad Vipra Bahudha Vadanti" (Truth is one, the wise tell it in various forms), which affirms the unity of truth in different religions. The branches of religious symbols spreading out from the lotus represent co-existence and diversity, while the open book is a symbol of knowledge which shows the path of harmony and understanding. The waves flowing below represent the continuous process of spiritual contemplation, which reflects the right to religious freedom enshrined in Articles 25 to 28 of the Constitution. This sculpture is a beautiful expression of the secular and inclusive character of India.
