The concept of Dharma and its influence
This sculpture draws inspiration from the Constitution of India and its ancient Vedic philosophy, particularly the concept of Dharma and Lokasamgraha (welfare of all).
-
Dharma Chakra: Inspired by the Ashoka Chakra in the Indian flag, this Chakra symbolises righteous governance and the rule of law. These principles are deeply rooted in Buddhist, Vedic and Mauryan traditions.
-
Directive Principles of State Policy: Such as Article 39, which emphasises equitable distribution of resources, constitutional ideals such as justice, development and education are depicted through the figure of a farmer and a woman.
-
Indian Traditional Art: The design incorporates abstract patterns of pillars such as temple-style carvings, but is kept simple, prioritising constitutional values over decorative detail. It reflects India’s rich cultural heritage in governance and law.
In essence, this sculpture is a visual expression of how India’s modern legal system is based on centuries-old ethical, spiritual and cultural traditions.
