7. Journey of Indian Constitution
The journey of Indian Constitution began in 1946, when the British government formed the Constituent Assembly to draft the Indian Constitution. It was a significant step towards India’s independence from British rule. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who was the chairman of the drafting committee, played a key role in shaping this document. After many deliberations, debates and amendments, the Indian Constitution was adopted on 26 November 1949 and came into force on 26 January 1950, giving birth to the Republic of India.
The Constitution is the longest written constitution in the world, initially containing 395 articles, which were later amended from time to time. It provided a framework for democracy, justice, liberty and equality, and contained fundamental rights and duties for citizens.
